Training

Training is available to support and inform:
-
Counsellors and mental health professionals who would like to use the website to deliver QuikFix with young people.
-
Referring staff or agencies who wish to refer young people to QuikFix.
Training options
For counsellors and mental health professionals
Training consists of a one- to two-day workshop on the QuikFix brief intervention. Counsellors also receive 3-4 hours of training on how to use the QuikFix website and resources, with ongoing support to practice skills.
Interactive skills training in assessment feedback, motivational interviewing and cognitive behaviour therapy techniques, adapted for use with young people, is provided.
The QuikFix website includes a comprehensive script to guide delivery of the QuikFix program. Once experienced in delivering QuikFix, counsellors are encouraged to start using the more streamlined QuikFix lite version of the website to deliver the intervention.
Supervision is offered to support skill development with one-on-one or group supervision as required. Peer to peer mentoring in QuikFix is also encouraged.
Trained counsellors who reach competency in QuikFix will receive a certificate as evidence of their achievement.
Fidelity to the QuikFix program is supported by comprehensive training materials, regular supervision and feedback.
Referring staff or agencies
Training is available for staff of agencies wishing to refer young people to QuikFix.
Agencies can make a referral to QuikFix for young people at risk of alcohol or other drug-related harms; for example, young people who come into contact with support services in night-time entertainment precincts, festivals or at Schoolies.
Video resources will provide step-by-step support to staff to identify, engage and refer young people who may benefit from a brief intervention to address their alcohol or other drug problems.
Referral to QuikFix includes processes to ensure the young person’s rights to privacy and confidentiality are respected.
